How To Catch a Bird…

How To Catch a Bird is a stop motion short based on a childhood memory. It’s the graduation film from Vera van Wolferen made for her masters in animation at AKV St. Joost Breda. When she was eight; her dad taught her how to fish. He told her to take the worm off the hook after fishing, but she had no idea why. After fishing she forgot about the worm and left it dangling on the hook. If she only knew then what the consequence of this action would be.

A short for shnit or K.? Or maybe both?

Animation by Vera van Wolferen

Vera van Wolferen (1988) is a storyteller, cardboardcraftswoman and creator of meticulously crafted cardboard sets that are often the stage for her stop motion animations but they can also be sculptures telling their own stories. Vera van Wolferen studied fine art at the AKI in Enschede and specialized in stop motion during her masters in animation at AKV St. Joost where she graduated in 2013. The medium of stop motion animation combines her passion for sculpture with film and sound. With her atmospherical animations she tells stories about personal experiences. Using visual metaphors to draw you into a tactile world.
