The End of Poverty?

The End of Poverty?

Global poverty did not just happen. It began with military conquest, slavery and colonization that resulted in the seizure of land, minerals and forced labor. Today, the problem persists because of unfair debt, trade and tax policies — in other words, wealthy countries taking advantage of poor, developing countries. Renowned actor and activist, Martin Sheen, narrates THE END OF POVERTY?, a feature-length documentary directed by award-winning director, Philippe Diaz, which explains how today’s financial crisis is a direct consequence of these unchallenged policies that have lasted centuries. Consider that 20% of the planet’s population uses 80% of its resources and consumes 30% more than the planet can regenerate. At this rate, to maintain our lifestyle means more and more people will sink below the poverty line.

Can we really end poverty within our current economic system?

TORN APART

By DoreenY and Macoco

Soldiers at war, families apart
Missing home comforts, sadness in heart
Anger deepens in fields of war
Missing their homeland more and more

Each day hopes high, soon they will meet
Wars at an end, peace we will greet
But this is all still only a dream
Long way off yet, so it would seem

Sunday roast, ma’s scrambled eggs on toast
They miss so much, they do all boast
But we all know the pain that they must feel
Please let it all end so their hearts can heal

So I say to all you who start these wars
Lets talk not fight, we’ve had enough, now pause
Bring families together so sad apart
Let love flow again in each and every heart

No more anger and pain for those brave soldier folk
Only happiness and joy in heart and memory soak
Never again let countries be torn apart
Let the world rejoice and make a new start
